Battle of Cannae

In the spring of 216 BC, Hannibal took the initiative and seized the large supply depot at Cannae. By capturing Cannae, Hannibal had placed himself between the Romans and their crucial sources of supply. During the occurance, the Romans were rebuilding their army. The Romans then set out to find and confront Hannibal. They found him on a riverbank and they set up and camped 6 miles away.Hannibal soon caught on to the surprise attack and he atttacked them when they least expected it. He took out a good chunk of their army but the Romans soon revolted back. The Romans forced their way through Hannibal's weak center and began to take control. After Cannae, the Romans were very hesitant to confront Hannibal in pitched battle. As a result of this victory, many parts of Italy joined Hannibal's cause.
